The legacy of EASTPAK goes as far back as 1952, when a fresh-faced Monte Goldman got a contract from the pentagon to manufacture duffel bags for the U.S. Army. Breaking the mold by focusing on a quality product that he could confidently give a ‘lifetime warranty’ with Goldman established him self as a brand to be reckoned with. The following years would see him expand the EASTPAK range into safety equipment and clothing.

But Goldman’s EASTPAK only seen true success when his son Mark joined the company in 1976. Fresh out of collage, the freethinking pianist brought a new sense of energy, vision and direction to the company. While studying at university, he noticed that the “cool” students weren’t carrying briefcases around anymore but army issue bags. What he noticed, in other words, was a gaping big hole in the market. His dad took a bit of convincing, but in the end he gave the green light for a trial production run and so Mark set off for a Chicago trade fair in 1977 with the first range of backpacks, duffels and shoulder bags for the fashion/student market. When the first flurry of orders started to flow in, Mark knew he was onto a winner.

Since those early days EASTPAK has continued to be a visionary in the backpack and schoolbag market. Still offering the ‘lifetime warranty’ on its core products, and increasing its market share in lifestyle clothing.
